If you are from Winston-Salem, you have probably heard of a place that is often lovingly referred to as the “Madhouse”. Come springtime its a place that is packed with locals and folks from far away, its full of loud roars, big cheers and its a place that has been in the triad and the hearts of locals for generation after generation.

No guesses just yet? We’re talking about Bowman Gray Stadium, home to a Nascar weekly racing series that runs from spring into the fall.

Currently wondering how a frilly wedding and portrait photographer got invited to the pits of a Nascar race?

(Let’s be real we all know I am a true tomboy at heart!)

Braden Mills Racing wanted me to capture the passion, camaraderie and excitement of their team as they worked towards the season opener!

I am never going to turn down a new and exciting photo opportunity so I grabbed my camera and best headphones and was on my way!

I have known Braden Mills, number 54 of the sportsman series, his whole life, as he is family to me. Over the years we have watched his passion for racing grow and one thing about the Mills family is this: if one person has a dream, they all have a dream- and this dream is no different. Team Mills is built up of family all making sure #54 gets where he wants to go- and has a ton of fun doing it!

As I stood beside Braden and his car (Staying out of the way as much as I could), I watched as his teammates and crew, made up of family and friends, work hard at what they do while loving every second. Its hot, fast paced and chaotic, but there is a beauty to it as you stand and watch it all happen.

I was honored to capture the passion and hard work that happens far before each car takes the track. It adds more understanding, pride and excitement when you watch them pull onto the track, and race off to their laps.

As they are fresh into their new season this year, I can’t wait to see all the great things that are to come for this team.
